History

The West Marsh Development Trust Ltd (WMDT is a registered charity (No.1112613) and a charitable company limited by guarantee (No. 5480342). We have operated and managed since December 1999 the West Marsh Community Centre in the West Marsh ward of Grimsby North East Lincolnshire. Which is among the most deprived communities in the UK and the 2nd most deprived community within North East Lincolnshire.

We offer a wide range of support and activities ourselves as well as facilitating agencies and partners to run daytime, evening and weekend activities at the Community Centre for the benefit of all residents in the area and others from other areas of North East Lincolnshire. On average this support and the range of activities listed below see on average around 500 individuals accessing the centre weekly seeing steady increases in annual overall attendances from 25,301 in 2017 to 25,235 in 2018 and then an increase to 26,300 in 2019.

The range of support and activities on offer include e amongst many, facilitated surgeries with local agencies and ward councillors. Youth and Older Peoples Social Groups. Health and Well-being support including the use of a Community Gym and Holistic therapy. Sporting Activities including archery and football. IT provision for those who don’t have it, Horticultural and Gardening activities. Community Bingo and Auctions, Seasonal Family Events at times like Easter and Xmas.

We also have a loyal and committed volunteer base of around 20 individuals, the majority of which live locally and have grown up with the centre. Our community led charity has been delivering support and activities to our local community for over twenty years. This against a background of cuts in local funding and provision and limited grant funding.
